DESCRIPTION
The endowment complex is structured in seven longitudinal volumes, maximizing sunning and fostering the transition between the north and south outer areas. The dialogue with the landscape environment of the existing hospital complex, environmental quality, the use of renewable energy and construction processes and innovation in the materials and structural systems of buildings, are decisive in the conception of the proposal.
On an underground road, which prioritizes the pedestrian use of the entire enclosure, a main axis is articulated that groups the principal accesses: main entrance to the Hospital, External Consultations and a new Dental Clinic. Around a new square, transforming the entire area into a tree-lined urban hall, access to the teaching uses of the three buildings object of this proposal are located: Gil Casares building rehabilitation and new faculties of Medicine and Dentistry. Boosting the idea of campus, to the south of the plot there is an extensive landscaped area that joins the three buildings and links with the green area to the east.
The Faculty of Medicine has a high compact form factor, nested by an orthogonal system of corridors that serve three volumes of rectangular plan articulated around four large empty spaces. The areas of greatest influx, teaching and access of the Institute of Forensic Sciences, are located in the lower levels and are proposed in concrete in situ and prefabricated alveolar plates, which allows greater dimensions for the teaching program and facilitates the inclination of the classrooms with greater capacity. The vertical and horizontal supporting structure of the rest of the plants is solved in wood, where small format teaching, research and laboratories are located. In an atrium, at full height, the two large meeting room areas are located, with great functional flexibility, and the itineraries are organized in a wide space that encourages meeting and exchange.
The Dentistry building, due to its functional specificity, separates the uses in two zones, with differentiated accesses that allow to avoid the crossings of circulations between the teaching areas and those that receive external users.
The Gil Casares building adapts to museum and administrative use by creating a new access that allows great spatial continuity between the north and south landscaped areas.
